We are very pleased to be returning to the Corn Exchange this February with the Test Space: Store. Open from the 10th-26th February the Test Space: Store is a unique temporary art space selling work by some of the Norths most original and exciting artists, designers and makers.

Golau Glau

10th-13th November

Golau Glau are an anonymous collective of artists, photographers and musicians, with particular interests in social history, not-silences and environments under threat – both urban and natural. Their body of work to date has examined themes of domestic, social and sexual politics; popular culture; scandal; folk history and Anglican and pagan rituals. The collective have received extensive radio play, press and blog coverage of their work (BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, XFM, The Guardian, Shook, Dazed & Confused).

Golau Glau’s first art exhibition takes place from 10-13 November 2011 at Test Space in Leeds. New works will be debuted, photographs will be displayed, there will be one hell of a launch party with bands and DJs sympathetic to the GG aesthetic including Hookworms and Runners. Details to follow.

The exhibition will feature a new sound and photography work about the closure of public libraries, ‘Public Interest’, and a selection of other sound works, videos and photographs by Golau Glau. There will be a programme/zine to accompany the exhibition.

The Sewing Sessions

The Sewing Sessions are Sewing Classes, Saturday Schools and Craft Workshops aimed at anyone with a love for making their own clothes, bags and accessiories.

We give you the opportunity to learn how to sew, learn sewing techniques in a Saturday or Sunday

…and leave with the ability to sew!

From Beginners Sewing Classes to Skilled Dressmaking learn how to sew in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Sessions are run by Pauline (a qualified dressmaker and teacher) and her daughter Jessica.

The Sewing Sessions…

Most sewing sessions run from 10am to 4pm (unless otherwise stated on the ‘book a session’ page)
Each Sewing Session (sewing class) will have 6-12 people
You will be taught by a qualified sewing teacher
You are encouraged to ask as many questions as you like, we want you to leave with a full understanding of the techniques & skills you are learning.

What do I need?

You need to bring a Sewing Machine to your Sewing Session (your own or borrowed, there is always one lurking in someone’s cupboard)
All materials are provided (unless stated on the course content)
If you wish to use your own materials you are more than welcome
We provide Tea and Coffee facilities.

On Saturday 1st October Test Space: Kitchen will be hosting Chili-con-carnival vs Picklefest a one off all you can eat barbecue extravaganza.

Last year Test Space: Kitchen hosted a legendary contemporary Victorian banquet, involving de-constructed whole hog and giant Eton mess. This was followed up with Leeds by the Sea; an adult, out-of-season, end of the pier night, involving twisted fish and chips, Russian Roulette Vol-au-Vents and nude, rude uses for candyfloss,

This year we bring you Chili-con-carnival vs Picklefest; a festival of food celebrating local chefs, food producers and creative talent.

Including:
-a special barbecue menu created by Billy & Mitchs Munch
-tastings, stands and stalls from some of the regions finest food and drink producers
-food challenges and competitions
-food porn photography exhibition
-live music and DJs across the night

Your chefs for the night are Billy & Mitch’s Munch; the result of a South African and New Zealander meeting in Yorkshire. Billy and Mitch will be creating a very special alternative barbecue cook up.

Hey there!

Ok so the theme this month is… ‘Daily Ritual’ !

Remember, this theme is open to interpretation – even if your ideas are quite far removed from the theme please don’t hesitate to send them in. It would be great if everyone can ‘present’ thier photo at the meeting on October the 18th and you can explain to everyone what influenced you to take it, why it fits the theme, what kind of camera you used etc. Don’t worry if you don’t want to stand up and ‘present’ I can just introduce your photo…
